About Livonia, Michigan
Livonia is a planned, family-oriented western suburb of Detroit, a grid of postwar neighborhoods, corporate offices, and shopping centers between Detroit and Ann Arbor. Once a century-long farming township of wheat fields and apple orchards, it incorporated as a city in 1950 largely to capture tax revenue from the Detroit Race Course horse track. Today it is a hub for auto suppliers, the Trinity Health system, and Schoolcraft College's nationally regarded culinary program.

Local History
- Livonia Township was organized by the Michigan Territory legislature on March 17, 1835; early settler Gideon Ruffner bought 160 acres from the federal government that year.
